Old Black Witch Pancakes
Growing up, my mom always made pancakes from scratch. She would read a recipe from the book, Old Black Witch by Wende and Harry Devlin, and recite a gobble dee gook enchantment. Does anyone else know the book?! It’s such a quick and easy recipe that is so nostalgic for me. Although I hated saying that enchantment as a kid because I thought it was weird, I loved those magical pancakes.
Baking Pancakes with Kids
Baking with the girls is one of my favorite activities; my oldest has become a mini chef. Measuring and pouring helps develop their fine motor skills and they love to have independence in the kitchen. When I first started baking with my daughter, it went against every grain in my body not to correct her. She’d scoop a HEAPING and unnecessary amount of flour or spill the bottle of vanilla into the bowl. But truly, it didn’t matter. I learned with a liiittle more patience it’s just amount making memories, and today, she’s a lot better at measuring than when she started.

Magical Birthday Pancakes
This year my birthday is a little different. I broke my heel a month ago, which, is a story for another day. My family has been incredible; my husband is practically a single parent to four kids, my mom is here every single day and my in laws help with the girls at the drop of a dime. This morning for my birthday, my mom made the magical pancakes from the Old Black Witch book, and they’re everything I remembered; lightly sweet, fluffy, and delicious. They’re cooked in Crisco which gives the pancakes a perfect golden bottom! The recipe typically calls for blueberries, but today she put peaches in them, and I enjoyed them more!
